If you have lost teeth, our dentist may recommend a dental bridge to replace them and restore your smile. Bridges are non-removable oral appliances and work to close the gap caused by your missing teeth so that you can smile, speak and eat with confidence once again.
Bridges are typically used to replace a single tooth or several teeth in a row. They consist of a prosthetic tooth or teeth anchored to two dental crowns. These crowns, also known as abutment teeth, are placed over the teeth on either side of the gap to provide stability for the bridge. A dental bridge may also be anchored in place using dental implants.
Benefits of dental bridges include:
- Restoring your ability to chew, speak and smile normally and naturally
- Restoring your bite to full function
- Alleviating stress on your bite
- Preventing your remaining teeth from shifting out of place
- Providing support for your facial contours
- Improving the appearance of your smile
Traditionally, bridges have taken two appointments to complete. At Lockwood Family Dental, we use advanced CEREC technology to complete your treatment in a single visit to our office. When you receive a bridge, our dentist will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap to receive crowns. We will then use our CEREC technology to create a digital impression of your teeth and design your dental bridge. The bridge can be created in a matter of minutes, and we will place it in your mouth and check to ensure that it fits properly before bonding it in place to fully restore your smile.
